3D Max

Eventually I have completed my Lego man in 3D Max, I was worried about starting it as I didn't know where to start?! Then I just sat down and started working my way down from the top. The more I worked on it, the more I become comfortable with it and didn't want to stop working on it. It took me a few hours but I am very happy with the outcome. I am going to begin working on the hands soon. :-)

This is the packaging I made for an Easter Egg. Working with maps seemed very confusing but not so hard when you try it out a few times. This image was made in Photoshop and then saved as a material and taken in as a map in 3D Max. I got lost when it came to the opacity and trying to cut out the inner oval shape.

This is an example of working with lights, creating simple objects then introducing a light and seeing how the shades and shadows can differ when the light changes direction or intensity.

This is my Lego arm, made using a simple cube and introducing the mesh smooth modifier, doing a few extrusions and beveling and also some rotation to show where the elbow joint is located.

3D Max

This is a pawn from the chess set I'm making. The tutorial was easy to follow and it turned out good.

My shark turned out a bit square looking but I plan to work on it more to correct this.

This was a turtle shell we made in 3Dmax class.

3DMax class

These are some objects I made in my 3DMax class. I thought the tutorial was easy to follow and everything worked out well for me.

This is a simple lego brick, we used the Boolean command to remove the bottom inner piece of the brick and also to attach the protruding cylinders to the main object.

This is a wine glass which we created by doing half a line drawing of the glass and then by using the lathe modifier we turned it into a full 3D model.

This is another glass I made with a hollow section in the centre instead of a solid model. I just included the inside of the glass in the line drawing for this one.

These are a pair of lego man's legs, we created these using a line drawing also and then used the Extrude modifier to make it into a 3D model. We also used the Bezier Corner and Smooth commands to turn the sharp edges into curves. This method was also used to make the shape of the wine glass more rounded.

Manakin scaled to my body size done in 3DMax. I found the tutorial for this a bit hard to follow in the beginning but the more I watched it I eventually figured out how to do it. It was the hardest thing I have done in 3DMax so far, the scaling was the toughest part of this brief. The joints in the legs and wrists changed colour as I think I clicked something in the render box and couldn't change it back. I'm happy I have finally completed it though.

Mobile phone made using 3DMax. I found this turtorial really good and easy to follow. I enjoyed making the phone and after completion I was eager to try something else. I felt I was getting the hang of the programme and enjoyed seeing the outcomes.

Lego head made using 3DMax. This was also easy to make when I figured out how to stack all the pieces in the central point. The measurements were a bit difficult to understand but I got there in the end. Also was confused as to the shape of the head, I just couldn't get the fillet of the chamfer cylinder right for quite a while. But looking at some of the other student's lego heads helped me overcome this.
